2004

  • SPEM opened a branch office in Brussels.
  • LSPR was carried out in Serbia and Monte Negro for the fist time.
  • SPEM became the only Slovenian company to have its signboard in the center of Brussels, the capital of the current integration, and in the center of Belgrade, the capital of the former integration.
  • The program of corporate public affairs, CorpPA, which is the advanced level of LSPR, was carried out for the first time in Ljubljana.
  • LSPR celebrated its fifth birthday at the International Conference on Communication Practice in Portorož.
  • SPEM received two prestigious awards from Porter Novelli International for two of the communication projects they carried out; one, for the project providing communication support to the referendum on the privatization of the Slovenian Railways for the Slovene Railway Company, and the other for the project providing communication support to the establishment of the Medical Faculty in Maribor for the General Hospital Maribor.
  • SPEM Communication Group became the member of the Management Consulting Association, which operates as part of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Slovenia.
  • SPEM organized a one-week intensive course LSPR International for the entire Adriatic region.
  • SPEM organized its traditional Forum with acknowledged lecturers such as Michel Ogrizek, the director of communications at the World Economic Forum in Davos.

2003

  • SPEM was once again the one connecting professionals from the entire region by organizing the first International Conference on Communication Practice in Portorož.
  • SPEM successfully carried out a widely recognized project offering communication support in the referendum on the privatization of the Slovenian Railways. That was the first time in the history of Slovenia that the government won a referendum it proposed.

2002

  • SPEM further specialized in the field of strategic advisement. They carried out quite a few recognizable projects, including providing strategic advice to Laško Brewery in their merger.
  • A new program called Man PR was implemented through LSPR. It is an education program focused on organization’s top and middle management.
  • The establishment of a post-graduate study program at the Faculty of Human Sciences in Zadar.
  • LSPR is a very popular school and all its courses in Slovenia, Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina are always full.
  • SPEM developed a new research tool STATISKOP for measuring the client satisfaction.

 2001

  • Krizno komuniciranje i upravljanje opasnostima was published in Croatia a little over a year after the book was published in Slovenian.
  • SPEM recetived the “Gold Quill of Excellence”, awarded by the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC), for the communication support in the celebration of the fiftieth anniversary of the high school, II. Gimnazija Maribor.
  • The project of the year was the implementation of the communication function in the international company INA d. d.

2000

  • SPEM published the book Krizno komuniciranje in upravljanje nevernosti (Crisis Communication and Risk Management).
  • SPEM started implementing LSPR in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
  • SPEM received a United Nations and International Public Relations Association (IPRA) award for the communications project “To Heal the Wounds of Earth and Soul” carried out for the International Trust Fund For Demining and Mine Victims Assistance (ITF).
  • SPEM received two honorary acknowledgements by the GWA, one, for the project of marketing support to the ecological credits, carried out for the Ecologic Development Fund of the Republic of Slovenia, and the other, for the project “Children for a Better Environment” in cooperation with Tetra Pak.
  • SPEM received a Porter Novelli International “Centaur Award” for the project “Communication Support in the Negotiation Process for the Collective Agreement of the Healthcare Union of Slovenia” and for founding the public relations school, LSPR Slovenia.
  • SPEM received the European award for excellence in public relations, the Gold Quill, awarded by the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC). This prestigious reward was awarded to the communication project “Children for a Better Environment” which was prepared and carried out together with Tetra Pak and the project “Eco School as way of life”.

1999

  • To cover the needs in Slovenia and Croatia, the first school for public relations in this region was founded – London School of Public Relations, which is run by SPEM Communication Group.
  • SPEM organized its first Forum, joining experts from seven different countries.
  • SPEM received a Porter Novelli International Award “Millenium 2000” for the campaign to raise the awareness about the effective use of energy among Slovenians for the Republic of Slovenia’s Agency for Rational Energy Consumption.
  • SPEM received an award IPRA FrontLine 21 for the most creative contribution by a smaller company or organization for the project “Communication Support in the Negotiation Process for the Collective Agreement of the Healthcare Union of Slovenia”.
  • Project of the year was communicating the changes that took place in Petrol.

1998

  • SPEM signed a cooperation agreement with the third largest international network of public relations agencies, Porter Novelli International.

1997

  • ZOJS (Slovenian PR Agencies Association) was established; SPEM took on an active role in founding and operating of ZOJS.
  • SPEM carried out PHARE projects for numerous Slovenian development agencies.
  • SPEM carried out a project for the Medical Centre Ljubljana called “The Implementation of the Communication Function as a Function of Management”.

1996

  • SPEM Zagred was established. It was first located in the tallest building in Zagreb, the so-called “Zagrebčanka”.
  • SPEM signed a cooperation agreement with the seventh largest international public relations agency, GCI GROUP from New York.
  • SPEM Communication Group was the only signatory, coming from the Middle and the Eastern Europe, to sign the European Lobbying Code of Conduct in Brussels.

1995

  • SPEM carried out the so-called radio monitor, which is a national research study among radio listeners.
  • SPEM started developing advisory services in the field of strategic communication.
  • SPEM successfully carried out communication support for Nafta Lendava.

1994

  • SPEM joins with its subsidiary companies and starts using the name SPEM Communication Group.
  • SPEM was among the founders of one of the largest investment funds in the country, KBM Infond.
  • SPEM established its branch office SPEM Portorož, located in Marina Portorož.
  • SPEM took part in the establishing of Radio City Maribor.

1993

  • Those working at SPEM start spending most of their time in their cars, since their clients are located all over Slovenia.
  • The most widely recognized project this year was one providing the communication support to Casino Portorož, while it was under proprietorial reformation.

1992

  • SPEM opened its branch office in Ljubljana and moved to the new offices on Gregorčičeva Street in Maribor.
  • SPEM took an active part in the different international professional associations, for instance IPRA, IABC, etc.
  • The most widely recognized project this year was the one providing communication support to Kreditna banka Maribor, while it was under reformation.

1991

  • During the attack on Slovenia, SPEM opened its office in Rotovž Square, Maribor.
  • SPEM expanded its activity by establishing subsidiary companies for press clipping, public relations, research and political campaigns.
  • At the time of the short liberation war, during which Slovenia became an independent state, SPEM organized a press center for foreign reporters.
  • SPEM provided communication support for the project introducing the first Slovenian credit card, TI card.

1990

  • SPEM provided marketing support and gave advice to many political parties in election campaigns throughout Slovenia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Monte Negro, Serbia and Macedonia. The one that stood out most was the campaign for the election of Kir Gligorov for the president of Macedonia.
  • In the USA, SPEM studied the implementation of the democratic principles with the American administration, as well as the management of political campaigns. At the same time, SPEM took an active part in the ongoing democratic transformation in Slovenia. While in New York, Mr. Novak’s roommate was the future president of the board of NLB (Nova ljublajanska banka), Marjan Kramar; furthermore, while studying at the National Democratic Institute in Washington his roommate was the future ambassador at Nato, Matjaž Šinkovec.
  • The book Kako zmagati na volitvah (How to Win an Election) was published in Ljubljana, and the book Politički marketing (Political Marketing) in Belgrade.

1989

  • SPEM’s experts carried out a public opinion poll that received wide recognition, as it was the only one in the country that exactly predicted the outcome of the election for the president of the Socialist Republic of Slovenia. The candidates were dr. Janez Drnovšek and Marko Bulc.
  • SPEM worked with many different political parties (SDSS, ZSMS-LS, Demos) during the different time periods.
  • Students’ Organization took an active part in establishing many political parties in Slovenia, for instance, SDSS, the transformation of ZSMS into a liberal party, etc.
  • SPEM first started working with the company Zlatorog Maribor, now Henkel Slovenia, that is still one of SPEM’s clients.

1988

  • Project group SPEM (Studio for Political and Economic Marketing) carried out several public opinion polls for various media in Slovenia and Yugoslavia.
  • SPEM cohabitated with the newspaper Katedra that was located at the university campus on Tyrševa Street in Maribor. At that time Katedra was confiscated many times; furthermore, the District Court of Belgrade prohibited the publishing of the newspaper and convicted the responsible person, in this case, the Students’ Organization.
  • After the imprisonment of Janez Janša, the students’ president Božidar Novak, together with the Union of Youth Organizations and Movements, proposed that Mr. Janša become the president of ZSMS.
  • SPEM was involved in establishing MARŠ (Maribor’s Student Radio)

1987

  • SPM started operating as part of the Students’ Organization University Conference of ZSMS. It provided communication support to political activities carried out by the Slovenian students and various alternative movements. The students also carried out many widely recognized public opinion polls for various newspapers such as Katedra, Večer and Telex, which was at that time considered a novelty.
  • SPM provided marketing support to an alternative candidate Mr. France Prosnik in the election for the president of SDZL.

1986

  • Studio for Political Marketing (SPM) was first mentioned in an alternative newspaper called Kmetijsko rokodelske novice that was being published during the eighties. SPM was established as a work group that provided communication and marketing support to social activities. The editor of the newspaper KRN was Božidar Novak; the newspaper contributors were part all of the ZSMS (Union of the Socialist Youth, Slovenia) Congress in Krško, which greatly contributed to the opening of the political space in Slovenia.
